Powerball Jackpot Reaches $400 Million

The Saturday night drawing in the Powerball failed to produce a winner and now the jackpot has jumped to a massive $400 million. The new jackpot is worth over $230 million before taxes if the eventual winner chooses to take it as a lump sum.

After there was no winner in Saturday’s draw, officials expect the jackpot to be worth $400 million by Wednesday
Thousands entered the draw on Saturday to try and win the then $300 million jackpot but none succeeded. Tickets worth $2 million each were sold in Florida and Texas on Saturday and a further $1 million worth of tickets were sold across five states.
With this Wednesday’s jackpot being even bigger, officials are expecting ticket sales to soar. However, it is nowhere near close to being a lottery record, the largest ever jackpot was $656 million won in the Mega Millions in March 2012.
Earlier this year 84 year old Gloria Mackenzie from Florida won the largest ever Powerball jackpot of $590.5 million.
The last Powerball jackpot winner was on June 22, the winning ticket was sold in Pennsylvania and its owner received prize money of $131 million.
