PokerStars Granted Bulgarian Online Gambling License
PokerStars has become the first online poker room to receive a license from Bulgaria’s State Commission on Gambling.
PokerStars’ parent company, the Rational Group, released a press release which said, “The Gambling Commission’s decision to award PokerStars a license underscores the company’s commitment to be among the first companies to enter regulated markets when licenses become available.”The Head of Corporate Communications for PokerStars, Eric Hollreiser, explained that he thinks that Bulgaria is full of potential.
According to Hollreiser “Poker is extremely popular in the country and recently we have seen some notable results from Bulgarian players including Dimitar Danchev, who won the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event for $1,859,000. We are delighted with today’s news and we are looking forward to work with the Gambling Commission so that we can launch as soon as possible.”
Bulgaria passed online gambling laws in early 2012; however, so far only three operators have been given licenses. PokerStars is the first operator that is not originally a Bulgarian company to receive a license.
Bulgarian customers will be able to play at pokerstars.bg which will share its tables with international players on pokerstars.com.
