Poker Blogger Stole Dealer’s Tips with Chopsticks
The Poker Blogger Jay Newnum, has been sentenced to a probation program after he stole almost $700 at a Connecticut casino by using chopsticks to pull cash out of a hole in a dealer’s tip box.
Newnum stole the money from Foxwoods Resort Casino after a tournament in December. As he willingly returned the money he was granted accelerated rehabilitation, a state court program which will see the charges erased if he completes probation.
Newnum was arrested on a misdemeanor larceny charge after the Mega Stack Challenge $600 no-limit Texas Hold’em tournament. However, Connecticut State Police did not issue a statement about the arrest until last week. So far Newnum has declined to comment, as has the casino.
However, Newnum did post a statement on his blog saying that he will “step away from the poker world indefinitely.” The statement went on to say that after flying home from the tournament Newnum “agreed that I would not discuss anything with anyone. I have honored and will continue to honor that commitment.”
Newnum also defended the president of the Foxwoods dealers’ union who had come under personal attack after revealing Newnum’s crime in a website post last week.
