Sheldon Adelson Prepares for Massive Anti Online Gambling Campaign

The casino billionaire is preparing for a huge campaign to fight online gambling legislation.

Adelson is preparing a public campaign designed to show online gambling as a danger to children, the poor and others who could be exploited by internet betting. The campaign will mark Adelson’s biggest venture into a legislative debate directly related to his business.
He has begun to hire lobbyists and public relations experts in order to press his case. In January Adelson is planning to launch an advocacy group, the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, which will include advocates for children and others vulnerable to the potential harms of online gambling. The organization hopes to find help from organizations which represent women, African Americans and Hispanics.

Adelson’s top political adviser, Andy Abboud, said “In my 15 years of working with him, I don’t think I have ever seen him this passionate about any issue.”

Those in favor of online gambling, such as the Poker Players Alliance, are known to be nervous about the campaign but it is highly likely that they will put all their energy into countering Adelson’s efforts.
