Online Casino Industry May be Helping Land Casino Market
Because online casino sites and online gambling have become so popular over the last few years, some are beginning to see a correlation between online casinos and land-based casino locations. Because many people can access online casino sites easily, casino gambling has become a more common pastime. And many believe that playing at home makes people want to visit brick-and-mortar casinos and get back into Vegas-style gambling.
For some who are successful at the online casino, making money playing poker or blackjack, could make a living at it, possibly reaching $100 an hour. The one problem with this option has to do with the fact that online casino sites are still illegal within US borders. Essentially, people placing bets at these online casino sites are breaking the law. However, the federal government doesn’t seem to be putting a great effort into catching these online gambling fans and enforcing the law. This is partly because of the millions they would have to track, all over the US. Quite the feat when there are local and state gambling issues to deal with first.
Some land-based casino operators feel that the correlation between online casino sites and brick-and-mortar casinos is good for business. ‘We just finished our new poker room ourselves and I have to believe online gaming helped to bring in new customers and introduced them to what poker is like,’ said vice president and general manager of the President Casino in St. Louis, Chris Strobbe. This is definitely a different view of the dynamics that exist between these two industries. One would think the online casino sites would be considered competition, but this specific example shows the direct opposite. When it comes to legalized online gambling, only the future will tell if it will happen or remain illegal within the US.
