Virgin to Ban American Online Casino Fans

Virgin owner Sir Richard Branson is one new online casino entrepreneur undaunted by possible legislation against online gambling in the U.S. Virgin intends to use its size and resources to generate considerable profit, but American casino players will have little involvement in the company’s online casino venture. Virgin has decided to forgo the millions in revenue generated by online casinos gambling in the U.S. due to its illegal nature.

While Virgin’s decision has obviously caused disappointment for American online casino players, Virgin says the poker fan base in Europe is increasing daily and will still enable the online casino company to generate sizeable revenue. Specially designed online casino software will prevent American players from gambling at Virgin’s site, while European casino fans will have access to a range of value added services including air miles, loyalty programs, and prizes in the form of flight tickets and holidays.

Virgin’s ban on the American market has caused wide speculation among industry analysts that the U.S. government could be intensifying its war on online casino gambling. Several leaders of top online casino firms have stressed the need to reduce dependence on the U.S. market. However none to date have made the decision to ignore it entirely. As a trendsetter, Virgin states its strategy will be to target players from all levels of skill and background in Europe and the UK who enjoy recreational internet gambling, rather than focus on the loss of potentially millions from the U.S. market.
