Online Casino Advertising Bans Continue in the UK
Online casino advertisements are very publicly displayed in the United Kingdom, but recently there have been moves to enforce the ban even stronger than before. This move follows the British government’s decision to take a stronger hand against illegal online casino activity, to regulate the movements and to take control of the online casinos industry.
Online casino advertisements do remain illegal in the United Kingdom, but there is a lot of it around – they can be found in subways, in taxis and poster boards. The online casino industry, it is estimated, spends millions on their advertisement campaigns annually. This however, may be drastically cut if the laws begin to be more strongly enforced, as predicted. Whether online casino adverts are illegal is considered a gray area for some. Because the online casinos themselves are located outside of the United Kingdom’s boundaries, some lawmakers argue that this makes their advertising legal.
There are those who argue, however, that the fact that the bonus schemes and attractive jackpot prizes entice people to play at the online casino, deems it illegal in nature. Tessa Jowell, the UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, has promised to take legal action against an online casino that advertises in the UK. The truth is that online casino gambling is so popular anyway, that with or without advertisements, those that want to play will play.
