Vancouver’s Largest Casino Set to Open in Two Weeks
After a long period of delays and controversy Vancouver’s newest and largest casino has finally been given an official opening date.
The $700 million Parq Vancouver casino resort was meant to open last year but it will be opening its door with a celebratory event at 11pm on Friday, September 29th.
On the same day the Edgewater Casino, which is just across the street, will officially close after twelve years of operating and owners Paragon Gaming will transfer its gaming license to the Parq. This process caused a great deal of controversy and lead to the lengthy delay as politicians tried to deal with the issue.
The new casino will feature a 72,000-square-foot gaming floor, twice as large as the Edgewater’s, and there were concerns over the impact of the increase in casino floor on the local area. As a result Vancouver politicians have restricted the number of slots and gaming tables allowed at the new casino.
The original plan was to have 1,500 slots and 150 tables but there will now be just 600 slots and 75 tables, similar to the facilities at the Edgewater.
As a result the venue may appear to be slightly empty, especially as a number of tables will be reserved for high rollers who visit the eleven private gaming rooms on offer. There will also be a high-limits slot area and a dedicated poker room.
The resort is also home to two hotels with a total of 517 rooms as well as eight restaurants and lounges, a ballroom that will be Vancouver’s biggest, spa facilities and more.
