Bookmakers Surprised By New Doctor Who

William Hill has said that it was surprised by the choice of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor Who and revealed that the biggest bet placed on her was just £62.50.

However, in the days leading up to the announcement the bookmaker reduced the odds on Whittaker from 20/1 to 4/1. They said it was clear that the next Doctor was likely to be female but the actresses Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tilda Swinton and Olivia Colman were their favourites. Whittaker will be making her first appearance as the Doctor in the Christmas special.

Meanwhile, bookmakers have already published odds on the most likely person to replace Whittaker. Current favourite is Kris Marshall at 6/1 along with Vicky McClure. They are followed by Benedict Cumberbatch, Michaela Coel, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Tom Rosenthal all at 8/1. Tilda Swinton is next at 10/1.
