Punter Bets £10K on Jeremy Corbyn Winning Election
An anonymous punter could win £182,000 after he bet £10,000 on Jeremy Corbyn winning June’s general election.
The bookmaker Betfred said that the 24-year-old graduate from Norwich placed a series of bets totalling £10,000. He bet £6,000 on Corbyn to become the next prime minister at odds of 12/1 and £3,000 at odds of 20/1 on Labour winning the most seats. He then bet £1,000 at 40/1 on the party achieving a majority.
A spokesman for the bookies said, “He is absolutely convinced that Jeremy Corbyn is going to win,” a spokesman said. He always does quirky bets, such as on X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent but this is his first political bet.” They went on to say that there has been an upsurge in political betting from young people in recent weeks and expect over £2 million to be bet on the election.
