Bookies Back Tilda Swinton As the Next Doctor Who

Since Peter Capaldi announced that he won’t be continuing in the role of Doctor Who speculation has been mounting over who will play the Time Lord next.
For the first time ever a woman is favourite with some bookmakers. Tilda Swinton has odds as short at 7/2 at a number of bookmakers including Ladbrokes while Sky Bet has her at 3/1 and William Hill at 4/1. However, at some bookmakers Kris Marshall is still favourite, for instance Sky Bet has him at 2/1.
In the past Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat has suggested that the Doctor could be a woman and the idea has been greeted with enthusiasm by a number of fans. It wouldn’t be without precedent, in 1999 Joanna Lumley played the Doctor in a Comic Relief sketch The Curse of Fatal Death.
