Chinese Businessman Gambles $4.6M in 82 Minutes
A Chinese businessman lost an impressive $4.6 million in just 82 minutes while playing at Auckland’s SkyCity Casino.
In the years 2001 to 2013 William Yan gambled an impressive $NZ563 million at the casino but he is now at the centre of a money laundering investigation and has had $NZ40 million worth of assets seized by authorities. They are also claiming that he has stolen $NZ129 in order to fund his lavish lifestyle. The money was reportedly stolen while he was working as chairman of a pharmaceutical company in 2000.
However, Yan denies all wrong doing and no criminal charges have been brought against him. Furthermore, according to a spokesperson for the casino that level of play is not unusual for their wealthy VIP players and New Zealand’s Department of Internal Affairs has described My Yan as one of a number of gamblers of significance.
