Unregulated Sites May Be Better for New Jersey Poker Players

When New Jersey regulated online poker the general view was that there would no longer be a need to play at unregulated sites. However, after five months of server, traffic and payment problems some are beginning to change their mind.

Unregulated Sites May Be Better for New Jersey Poker Players

There are numerous reasons why an online poker player in New Jersey would be tempted towards an unregulated site.

While the regulated market is still young and growing, it is hard for players to recommend the small sites to larger and better established sites.

Recent cash-game numbers at Party Poker NJ average just 179 players for 7 days, compared to Bodog’s (which will accept US players) average of 1500.

In fact, Bodog draws almost four times the volume of all NJ-based sites combined. Traffic numbers on the site hold steady and have been much higher in the last year.

Further attractions of the unregulated sites are better signup bonus and stability. It is not uncommon to find signup bonuses of around $1,000. However, the NJ regulated sites offer nothing anywhere near this figure.

New Jersey’s sites also suffer from issues of server stability. It has been improving since November; however, they are still some way behind the stability offered by some unregulated sites.

Of course there are benefits of playing at a New Jersey regulated site, most of all player security and ease of banking. But it is easy to understand why players may be tempted away from these sites.
