Drunken Bet Lands NZ Man with 99 Letter Name
A 22 year old New Zealand man, who lost a poker bet four years ago while drunk, now has a 99 letter first name on his passport. At the time, he completed the form and paid the fee and didn’t think much of it until he went to collect his new passport recently. His application had been approved unknowingly and his new registered first name is: “Full Metal Havok More Sexy N Intelligent Than Spock And All The Superheroes Combined With Frostnova”.
It seems that all was in order and according to the New Zealand law, you can change your name to pretty much anything so long as it’s less than the 100 character limit and does not contain any offensive words or resemble an official rank.
The young man is entitled to change his name back but will need to reapply and cough up another $127.
This is not the first case ever in New Zealand of out of the ordinary names. A couple back in 2007 registered their child’s name as “Superman”. In another case in 2008, a family court judge ordered a child to be taken into court custody so she could change her name after her parents had named her “Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii”.
