Ari Engel has started off the new season in incredible form by winning his sixth WSOP Gold Ring.

He claimed the $30,000 top prize to continue his remarkably successful year which has seen eleven final tables and multiple cashes. The consistent form he has shown has made him a true “tournament grinder.”

However, winning the sixth ring wasn’t a walk in the park; he had to defeat a field of 235 players to reach the final player where he was second in chips count behind Chris Rizzo. Rizzo was dispatched in fifth place and before long Engel was heads up against Aaron Massey. The heads-up play lasted for almost an hour and neither of them managed to build up a big advantage.

Eventually Engel began to play more aggressively and finally took the match.

After the match Engel said that “Aaron is an incredible player and I have an incredible amount of respect for his game.”

In the last 12 months Engel has won 3 WSOP Circuit events and is tied with Alex Masek for the all-time lead.
