At Day 1b of the 2013 bwin World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic 125 more players came to try and get through to Day 2. There were numerous re-entries and the play seemed significantly more aggressive than in Day 1a.

Bernard Samaha will go into Day 2 as chip leader after an aggressive day of poker

At the end of the 10th level there were just 46 players left, Bernard Samaha was leading and he will be overall leader at the start of Day 2 with a stack of 293,700 chips. Behind him is Albert Daher with 234,000 chips, Daher didn’t seem happy to just play live, he was participating in online tournaments at the same time.

Other big stacks to make it through include Asaf Avci with 200,200 chips and Tobias Peters with 195,600 chips.

However, a number of big names were struggling.

Last year’s winner, Marvin Rettenmaier, busted at the end of Day 1a and re-entered just before the dinner break on Day 1b. However, he was busted once again by Atahan Gukarova. Other big names to crash out include Kelly Kim, Dominik Nitsche, Mateusz Moolhuizen and Martin Kabrhel.

When registration closed on Day 1b it was announced that the prize for first place will be $250,000 and a seat at the WPT Championship at the Bellagio in May.
