Betting Markets on the Next Doctor Who
Since Matt Smith announced that he will be leaving the role of Doctor Who the media has been full of speculation over his replacement.
Most recently it was reported that Rory Kinnear has been offered the job by show bosses and they are awaiting his response. However, despite this he still remains second favourite at the bookies Betfair, the favourite is Chris Addison with odds of 9/8 while Kinnear has odds of 37/15.
Kinnear is best known for his role in the last two James Bond films Skyfall and Quantum of Solace as the spy Tanner.
Despite Betfair favouring Addison, UK bookies Ladbrokes has said that it is no longer accepting bets on Smith’s replacement since the media reports on Kinnear. Prior to the media announcement Ladbrokes had Kinnear as third favourite with odds of 5/1 and Ben Daniels at 2/1. Betfair currently has Daniels at 73/12.
A spokesperson for Ladbrokes, Alex Donohue, said “All bets are now off when it comes to the identity of the next Doctor Who. Kinnear had always been a popular punt but after a flurry of activity which pushed him into favouritism we closed the book.”
So far there has been no official comment from the BBC which claims it is in the middle of the casting process.
