Highest Powerball Jackpot in History Won in Small Florida Town
In Zephyrhills, a small town in the state of Florida, people are anxiously waiting for the lucky Powerball jackpot winner to claim their prize.
The Florida Lottery’s office reported that the winning ticket holder will walk away with the largest Powerball jackpot in history, rounding up to $590.5 million which could mean an estimated $376.9.5 million cash lump sum. So far no one has claimed this unprecedented jackpot but the winner has two months to collect the prize.
Lottery spokesman David Bishop said that this is not uncommon with winners, especially as according to Florida state laws the names of lottery winners must be made public.
He commented: “It never happens this quickly. If they know they won, they’re going to contact their attorney or an accountant first so they can get their affairs in order.”
The winning lottery ticket was sold in the town’s local Publix. The company’s spokeswoman, Maria Brous assured everyone that the store is also in the dark as to the identity of the lucky customer but they are excited for the winner or winners.
The odds of winning the jackpot were one in 175.2 million which clearly didn’t stop one Zephyrhills resident making a neat profit from the $2 lottery ticket.
