EA to Shut Down Three Facebook Games Titles
Last Monday Electronic Arts announced that it will discontinue three of its Facebook games as player activity as quickly dropped.
The games, The Sims Social, SimCity Social and Pet Society, will no longer be available. However, more popular titles such as Bejeweled Blitz, Solitaire Bliz and Plants vs. Zombies will remain.
In its blog post about the closures EA said, “For people who have seen other recent shutdowns of social games, perhaps this is not surprising.”
The games will be closed on June 14th and there are instructions available for players on what they should know before the shutdown.
Players are encouraged to spend any in-game currency they have as it will no longer be valid after June 14th. Players are also encouraged to make sure they have used any gift cards bought from Playfish for the games before the shutdown date.
EA is not the first to shut down games on the social network. In February Zynga closed CityVille2 just three months after is launch when it failed to attract as many players as its predecessor.
However, Facebook says that gaming on the network continues to grow and there are currently over 250 million gamers each month.
