1000s of White Easter Bets Lower Odds
Unusual weather across the UK forced bookmakers to cut the odds of snow over Easter. As adverse weather conditions continue to plague the country thousands decided to put their money where their mouth is and place bets on the white stuff staying until the Easter holidays.
As a result Ladbrokes cut their odds from 4/5 to 4/6 as they saw more than 5,000 bets placed over the last few days.
William Hill was also forced to cut their odds of a White Easter in London from 3/1 to 2/1 as well as a white Easter Sunday in Edinburgh from 6/4 to 5/4.
It seems that Britons flock to the bookies as temperatures dip even further. Bets can be placed on events such as the upcoming Varsity Boat Race with odds of 10/1 of the event being disrupted by possible block of ice in the Thames.
Joe Crilly, spokesman at William Hill explained that the company had to stop taking bets on the lowest recorded temperature for this time of the year: “we could be paying out a small fortune if the Easter bunny wakes to snow”.
