Will Argo’s Golden Globes Success Change the Oscars?
“Argo” has won the Golden Globes for best drama and best director beating “Lincoln” which was widely expected to win. In the end “Lincoln” only won one award for Daniel Day-Lewis’ leading role.
It is not known how this outcome will affect the Oscars, so far the betting market hasn’t adjusted with “Lincoln” still favourite to win at 1/3 and “Argo” someway behind with odds of 5/1. However, it would not be surprising to see the odds change soon.
Director Ben Affleck was left off the list of directing finalists for the Oscars in a move which was seen as significantly hurting the film’s chances of winning and Oscar.
On the other hand “Lincoln” received the most nominations at both award shows.
There is a history of the same film winning both the Oscar and the Golden Globe, for instance last year “The Artist” won best picture Oscar and the Globe for best musical or comedy.
In 2008 “Slumdog Millionaire” won the Oscar for best picture and the Golden Globes equivalent for a drama.
