St Petersburg Man Wins $50 Million Jackpot
Christopher McGurran, a 30 year old man from St. Petersburg, has claimed the $50 million Powerball jackpot which was drawn last month.
McGurran is a heating and cooling technician and bought his winning ticket at a Sweetbay just a few minutes from his home.
The store manager, Owen Henry, said that “one of the mission statements of Sweetbay is to support our community.
What better way to do that than to give somebody in our community $50 million.”
McGurran has chosen to receive the payment as one lump sum which after taxes comes to $32.4 million.
According to lottery officials Mcgurran and his wife were calm when they came to collect the winnings and have already contacted financial advisors for help.
David Bishop the deputy secretary of the Florida Lotto said that “They were prepared for this. They were subdued but they were excited. I asked them what they did for a living and now they said they’re both retired.”
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 135 million.
