The Downside to Lottery Wins
Many people dream of winning a huge lottery jackpot and ending all their financial worries.
However, to tell the truth, life doesn’t always go as planned for the so called ‘lucky winners’.
Juan Rodriguez thought that he was settled for life when he won $149 million in a Mega Millions draw, however, soon after collecting the lump sum option of $88 million his wife divorced him and was awarded half of the winnings.
Things were even worse for Jack Whittaker who won $315 million in the Powerball lottery. Soon after he was robbed of $545,000 cash while in a strip club.
Then his daughter and granddaughter were found dead before Whittaker was sued by Caesars Atlantic City casino for bouncing $1.5 million worth of checks to cover his gambling losses.
Even unluckier was Jeffrey Dampier. He won $20 million in the Illinois lottery and used the money to buy relatives homes and start his own business. However, nine years after winning he was kidnapped and killed by his sister-in-law and boyfriend who wanted the money.
Asides from the odds being completely against you when playing the lottery, it seems that vast sums of money often lead to more problems than we ever imagine.
