Craig Proves his Popularity But Who Will the Next Bond?
The latest James Bond film, Skyfall, topped last Friday’s box office after taking a massive $30.8 million.
So far the film has made nearly $400 million worldwide and with a possible $80 million weekend opening it is looking like it could be the top earning Bond film.
However, according to Boxofficemojo.com, after adjusting the average ticket price for inflation, then the highest earning Bond film is the 1965 film “Thunderball” which starred Sean Connery as the secret agent. The film made $65.3 million or $600 in today’s money.
While Daniel Craig has signed on for a few more Bond films, there are already betting markets open on who will be the next Bond.
At present the favourite is Idris Elba at 5/1 with Michael Fassbender and Sam Worthington not far behind at 11/2.
You can also bet on some less likely candidates, Leonardo Di Caprio has odds of 50/1, Vinnie Jones 200/1 and Victor Chandler at 1000/1.
Skyfall has already set a new UK record for its first week in cinemas taking $59.86 million, a record previously held by the final Harry Potter film. Overall Skyfall is the third highest grossing film of the year in the UK behind The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers.
