The final film The Beatles were involved with was the Magical Mystery Tour and it is now going to be re-released on DVD and Blu-Ray after a short theatrical run.

A lot of the film is improvised featuring the band taking Ringo’s Aunt Jessie on a Magical Mystery Tour; it features them on a coach with other actors, children, real people and an accordion player.

In between shorts the band performs songs such as I Am the Walrus, Blue Jay Way and Your Mother Should Know.

The film does lack focus, due to the fact that it is improvised. It is definitely a strange film, not obviously funny but still reminiscent of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

It is certainly a very British film, and is excellent at conveying the frustrations of a long coach trip.

Overall though it is an extremely watchable film, it is not pretentious in anyway and doesn’t try to get the audience to do any soul-searching.

The film is about having fun, and certainly shows us The Beatles enjoying themselves. The band don’t take on characters, they just play themselves and provide the audience with an insight into their personalities.

While the film could do with slightly better focus, overall it is certainly an enjoyable experience.
