Zynga and Hasbro Release FarmVille Board Games
Zynga and Hasbro have joined together to produce board games of popular online games such as FarmVille, Draw Something and CityVille.
Some are viewing this as a brilliant business plan while others just think it is Zynga’s latest attempt at survival.
Over 340 million monthly active users enjoy Zynga’s online games and they are hoping that this will translate to the physical world.
The game Hungry Hungry Hippos has been turned into Hungry Hungry Herd, CityVille has been made into a Monopoly game and Words With Friends has been transformed into something very similar to Scrabble.
At first investors responded well to the news and Zynga’s stock rose, however, it has now dropped back down and Hasbro has also suffered a similar decline in value.
In the long term neither company is likely to be hurt by the move, it may produce a small amount of revenue for Zynga.
Hasbro on the other hand are unlikely to see any major boost to profits.
There is also some concern that the whole plan may backfire. While FarmVille is hugely popular online, the majority of its players are over the age of 18 and are unlikely to be going out and buying board games.
