Avengers DVD to Include Many Super Bonuses

Now that you’ve seen The Avengers in the movie theater, are you ready for the DVD? The box office hit has made almost $1.5 billion in ticket sales worldwide since opening on April 11 (May 4 in the US). In the film industry, they call that “phase 1”.

Now phase 2 (the DVD phase) is quickly approaching. According to Disney, the DVD is set for release on September 25, 2012. Disney and Marvel are giving The Avengers the 5 star treatment. They will be releasing multiple versions of the movie. The ultimate version for the Marvel fan is the 4-Disc Blu-Ray Combo Pack. The Avengers Combo Pack will come with the movie on Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, a Digital Copy and a Digital Download of “Avengers Assembled” Music from the movie.

What is a digital copy? When you buy a movie, maybe you’ll want to copy it to your tablet or other device. It’s not practical to copy 4 gigabytes (for DVD – Blu-Ray discs start at 25 gigabytes) to your smartphone or tablet so you can watch your favorite super heroes on the go. Disney and other movie studios like to add digital copies which let you choose a much smaller format that you can easily transfer to whatever gadgets you’d like. This is great to discourage piracy.

The Avengers DVD comes with a “gag reel”. In a gag reel, the actors speak about their roles in the movie. It also has a behind the scenes look at the visual effects, deleted scenes and much more. There’s even a Soundgarden music video of the song “Live to Rise”.

The two disc version will have everything in the Combo Pack with only the DVD and Blu-Ray versions. A single DVD version will include the movie as well as Assembling the Ultimate Team and Audio Commentary with Joss Whedon
