Sands growing larger in the little town of Bethlehem
Atlantic City, crown of the Jersey shore, has given the region gaming and entertainment at the city’s top-rated casinos for years; but a new neighbor may change the region’s offerings.
The Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, gambling center recently announced that the Sands Bethlehem Event Center would begin construction in the Bethlehem, PA. venue, with a scheduled opening date of Memorial Day 2012. The American holiday commemorating those lots in battle, Memorial Day is customarily celebrated the last Monday in the month of May. Some view it as the beginning of the summer season, opening with a three-day weekend. The Sands Center is planned to be a multi-purpose facility with seating for up to 3,000 people.
“We are so pleased to continue expanding our resort during this milestone year and provide new entertainment options for the region,” Robert DeSalvio, Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem President, said. “We are partnering with Vision Entertainment Group to ensure that the Sands Bethlehem Event Center will provide everything that our guests are seeking when visiting our property. The Event Center will continue to position the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem as a premiere destination for leisure and business travelers.”
DeSalvio said the venue would hold up to 3,000 people including standing-room-only space on 50,000-square-feet. An additional 12,000 square feet will be used for other purposes; DeSalvio expects to draw top talent to the venue and has signed an agreement with Live Nation, making them the hall’s select booker. Since Live Nation is responsible for the booking of top talent in Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa, DeSalvio expects they will attract a similar level of talent. Recent artists at the Borgata include Paul Simon and Robert Plant as well as comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Adele is scheduled to grace the stage there on October 7.
