Jim Belushi and his Sacred Hearts put in an appearance at the Rivers Casino launch event in Des Plaines, Illinois.

The Rivers Casino represents one of the most hotly anticipated arrivals of recent years. Occupying a 147, 000 square foot property, the casino contains a massive 44,000 square foot gaming floor alongside some 1,000 slot machines and 48 table games featuring classics such as craps, roulette blackjack, poker and baccarat.

In addition, the complex boasts an array of enticing dining options from steak houses, coffee shops and French eateries to Asian restaurants and luxurious cocktail lounges. The casino itself is built over a man made canal which satisfies the legal requirement to operate away from the mainland. “I’m feeling a little seasick”, joked Belushi with reference to the notorious ‘water clause’ before calling the property “quite the architectural feat”.

Commenting on the opening, Neil Bluhm, chairman of Midwest Gaming and Entertainment, said that the venture was a welcome addition to the state of Illinois. Calling Rivers Casino a “showplace attraction for the entire region”, he noted that developers had “considered every detail with our customers in mind”. Rivers Casino Chief Executive, Greg Carlin, spoke with equal enthusiasm – suggesting that Rivers would “raise the bar for gaming and entertainment in the Midwest”. “We have created a unique and exciting experience”, he concluded.
