UK Gambling Revenues at Record High
The British gambling industry is continuing to enjoy growth as £13.8 billion was bet in the 12-month period ending in September 2016.
The new figures from the Gambling Commission show that nearly £4.5 billion came from online gambling, an increase of about 7% from April 2015 to March 2016. From that money, casino games generated £2.4 billion, most of which (£1.6 billion) came from slots. The gross gambling yield for remote betting, including betting exchanges and pool betting was £1.9 billion and was dominated by horses and football.
Land casinos contributed a total of £1.2 billion, up by 15% from the previous report. There are a total of 147 casinos in the UK. The overall figure includes lottery revenue. In the US, casinos bring in about $70 billion a year and lotteries a further $70 billion.
