Genting to Close Birmingham’s Star City Casino

It seems as if the Star City Casino in Birmingham will close just 13 years after it was called the future of British casinos.
It is thought that the casino will be closed in January resulting in the loss of more than 200 jobs. However, Genting is consulting with staff about moving around 60 support jobs from Liverpool to Birmingham. Genting has said that the Star City casino operates in the shadow of the Genting Results World which offers a casino, hotel and shopping centre.
The casino opened in 2003 but in recent years there has been a decline in business and it has reduced its size. It was further hit when the £150 million Genting Resorts World opened earlier this year and many believed that this would be the final nail in Star City’s coffin.
