Statistics Show Huge Increase in Online Gambling in Britain

An industry update from the UK Gambling Commission has shown that online gambling is by far the largest sector of the industry in Britain with 33% of all bets placed occurring online.
The statistics for April 2015 to March 2016 show that total digital Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) was £4.5 billion surpassing the National Lottery GGY of £3.4 billion and the £3.3 billion generated by retail bookmakers. UKGC Program Director James Green has said that the statistics mean that operators need to demonstrate that they are taking an innovative approach to using technology to engage customers.
The statistics also revealed that there were 8,709 betting shops in Britain in September 2016, that there were 167,839 gaming machines and that there are 575 bingo halls. In total there are 104, 896 people employed in Britain’s gambling industry.
