William Hill Targeted by Sophisticated DDoS Attack

The bookmaker William Hill has been targeted by a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack and has been having problems with its websites since the middle of last week.
The bookmaker’s sites initially went down last Tuesday and since then the company has been struggling to return to normal service. By the following day an intermittent service was running on its main websites however, even today there are still some issues accessing the site and others run by the bookie.
William Hill has said that the attack was “sophisticated” and it follows a number of similar incidents in recent weeks. Just last month websites such as Twitter, Netflix and the Guardian newspaper also suffered effective DDoS attacks. William Hill has said that it doesn’t have a timescale for resolving the issue but it hopes to have it fixed “ASAP”.
