William Hill in Talks Over £5 Billion PokerStars Merger

William Hill has said that it is in talks about a £5 billion merger with PokerStars owner which would create one of the world’s largest online betting companies.

The company is holding discussions with Amaya to create a global leader in online sports betting, poker and casino. The talks come just a few weeks after the company rejected an ambitious three-way takeover deal launched by Rank and 888 in the summer.

William Hill has said that the Amaya merger fits with its diversification strategy by growing its digital and international business. PokerStars is one of the biggest players in the only gambling world and controls 70% of the online poker market globally with 2.26 million quarterly active users and a database of over 100 million users. While more details about the proposed merger are not yet known it is thought that there may be competition from GVC Holdings.
