PokerStars to Offer Sports Betting in Republic of Ireland

There is good news for sports bettors in the Republic of Ireland as PokerStars has just been given a remote bookmakers license by the Irish Revenue Commissioners.
This means that it is now possible to place sports bets via the PokerStars 7 client. The license will not change the way in which the software works, but PokerStars must now pay local betting duty to the government.
Sports betting has been available via the PokerStars client for players from the UK since May of this year.
Initially the service just covered football, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, rugby union, handball and volleyball but it is now expanding to cover many more sports and horse racing is expected to be available in the near future. Other sports that will soon be on offer include American football, badminton, baseball, golf, ruby league and snooker.
