Ex-Footballer David McGurk Crowd-Funds for “Social Betwork” Business

The increasingly popular world of crowd-funding has reached the world of sports betting via a project launched by ex-footballer David McGurk, a former defender at York City, on crowdcube.com.

McGurk’s describes his company, betsofmates.com, as “The Social Betwork”, it enables customers to participate in pooled betting on rugby, darts and of course football.

McGurk and his business partner, Adam Haywood, who is responsible for ongoing strategy and business development, believe that the unique blend of gambling and social networking is what sets betsofmates.com apart. McGurk is hoping to source around £200k through the crowd-funding website to further develop his business.

McGurk said, “We have worked hard on minimal funding to get to where we are now. We now feel ready to go to the next level. Using the funding we plan to build an app which our existing customers have been crying out for.

On top of that we will introduce new sports, improve the website and finally be in a position to market the brand. We are proud of what we achieved so far but feel there is a lot of potential to tap into a huge market with a bit of financial backing“.
