Guests at Las Vegas Casinos Can Now Pay in Bitcoins

This week two Las Vegas casino hotels will begin to accept bitcoin as a form of payment for a variety of services.

Guests will be able to pay with the virtual currency at both hotels’ front desks and in the D’s gift shop. The famous American Coney Island at the D will also accept bitcoins as will Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.

The hotels are using BitPay to process bitcoin purchases, tablets with the BitPay client will be installed at the cashiers allowing bitcoin users to quickly and easily pay using their mobile wallets.

The co-owner of the two hotels, Derek Stevens, said that customer demand has led to the move.

Upon making the announcement Stevens said, “I’m proud that the D and Golden Gate will be the first casino properties to accept Bitcoin. We’re located in the growing high-tech sector of downtown Las Vegas, and like all things downtown, we’re quickly adaptive to new technology. The timing is right for us to launch this initiative, and I’m happy to be able to offer this to our customers.”

In other news for bitcoin users, the travel rewards site PointsHound is now offering its members the chance to earn bitcoins instead of frequent flyer miles or other reward points.
