Three New Members for American Gaming Association
Last week the American Gaming Association (AGA), which represents the commercial gambling industry on Capitol Hill, announced that it is adding three new members including Wynn Resorts and Station Casinos. The third new member is the racetrack and casino operator Churchill DownsThe three companies will add representatives to the AGA’s board of directors. It is expected that Steve Wynn, the chairman of Wynn Resorts, will join the board. If so it will mark his return to the organization which he helped found in June 1995. Wynn left the AGA after the sale of Mirage Resorts to MGM Grand Corp. in 1999.
Station Casinos Chairman Frank Fertitta III will also be joining the board, his company’s UltimatePoker website was the first to go legally online in Nevada.
The international chairman of MGM Resorts, Jim Murren, is the AGA’s incoming chairman. He will be replacing Bally Technologies Chairman Richard Haddrill at the end of the year.
It will be interesting to see what line the organization takes on internet gambling, while many of its members are pro-online gambling there are a few who are determined to prevent it becoming legal.
