European Gambling Operators Anticipate US Legislation
European online gambling operators are eagerly anticipating the legalisation of their operations in the US market.
H2 Gambling Capital, a major gambling industry consultancy firm, believes that the US market could be worth up to $7.4bn in poker, casinos and bingo winnings in just five years. The assumption is based on legislation passing in 17 states, so far three states have legalised online gambling and many more are expected to follow suit.
For instance, Pennsylvania, which borders New Jersey and devastated Atlantic City’s casino industry when it legalised casino gaming, is now considering a bill to legalise internet gambling within state borders in order to be able to continue competing.
It is expected that poker, casino gaming and bingo will make up the US online market. This means that European operators that focus on sports, such as Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, are going to face strong opposition from sports bodies such as the NFL.
However, operators such as bwin.party and PokerStars are hoping for a rebirth of their US brands when they are able to re-enter the market.
One thing is for sure, as the market opens up; the competition between rival operators is going to grow fiercer.
