Zynga Purchases November Software to Develop Midcore Games
Zynga, the social game developer, has purchased November Software LLC and its development team in order to work in-house on a midcore mobile game titled “Battlestone”.
The news was by November Software co-founder Szymon Swistun. Swinstun said that his team has been developing Battlestone since they joined Zynga a few months ago.
He said that they “realised we could accelerate game development by combining our team’s expertise building blockbuster console games and Zynga’s strength in building social games on a massive scale.”
Swinstun is working with the development team for Zynga’s “Mafia Wars” in order to learn “what makes midcore gaming truly fun and what it takes to build a social game at scale.”
The midcore gaming market lies between hard-core console gamers and casual gamers who enjoy games such as Angry Birds. The Vice President of Mobile at Zynga, Justin Cinicolo, described mid-core as being “games for people … who used to be hardcore gamers but don’t have the time anymore”.
Swistun said that midcore games are “about making a deep game experience more accessible.” The idea is to develop a game which pushes the limits of social and mobile gaming, but also creates an “experience that fits around their [the busy gamers] schedule.”
