Apple Samsung Lawsuits Set to Continue
With the release of a new iPhone comes an extension in the patent wars between Apple and Samsung.
Samsung has now brought Apple’s iPhone 5 into an existing lawsuit claiming that it violates their patents.
Samsung said that it believes that “the iPhone 5 will infringe the asserted Samsung patents-in-suit in the same way as the other accused iPhone models.” The company is now planning to file a motion to amend its infringement contentions to deal with the iPhone 5 as soon the new phone has been analysed.
Recently Apple won one of the battles in a California courtroom which cost Samsung $1 billion. In that instance each of Samsung’s counter claims was rejected.
However, the two companies have a huge amount of lawsuits being fought right across the world.
Apple is hoping to place injunctions on a number of Samsung products as well as banning them from sale.
If Apple is successful then it could result phones such as the Galaxy S3 being withdrawn from the shelves and Samsung forced to redesign a number of devices.
Last Friday Apple filed a motion asking for another $707 million in supplemental damages from Samsung.
In the papers Apple claimed that Samsung deliberately harmed Apple and effectively stole billions in sales.
