William Hill Online Goes Awards Crazy
The popular online bookmaker, William Hill Online, has been awarded the eGaming Review (EGR) operator of the year award. They were given the award at a packed ceremony held at the Honourable Artillery Club in London.
The panel of judges said that William Hill Online has turned itself into a “dynamic fresh faced online gaming brand and their momentum shows no sign of slowing down.” Upon receiving the award the CEO of William Hill Online, Henry Birch, said that the award “recognises the huge strides we’ve made over the last 12 months”.
William Hill is one of the largest gambling operators in Europe. They have over 16,000 employees and last year made a profit of £156 million. Their online operation includes casinos, bingo, poker and sports betting and this year has seen revenues rise across the board.
They have expanded significantly over the past year and are now available to 175 countries. Most recently they have launched a women’s only sports personality of the year competition. When nominations opened the jockey Hayley Turner quickly went into the lead with hundreds of votes. At the moment other strong contenders include swimmer Rebecca Adlington (winner of world championship gold this year), Chrissie Wellington (a top triathlete), Kelly Smith (football), Beth Tweddle (gymnastics) and Sarah Stevenson (taekwondo athlete, won the world title this year). However, nominations are still open and you can vote for any sportswoman you wish.
William Hill has said that it is making nothing out of this apart from free publicity and hopes to attract more female customers. Whilst there are other women-only sports awards such as the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, William Hill is the only one which allows the public to make nominations.
The winner shall receive a trip to Kempton races and a £1,000 charity bet on the William Hill King George VI Chase and shall be announced on December 21st.
