Poker Pro Johannes Strassmann Found Dead
German poker pro Johannes Strassmann has been found dead near the Ljublianica River in Slovenia’s capital. The 29 year was reported missing on 21 June in Ljubljana and authorities have been searching for him since. So far it is not clear how Strassmann drowned but local police do not suspect foul play.
Strassmann reportedly disappeared when he was on his way to meet with some Slovenian high stake players. According to posts on a Facebook group dedicated to the player, he “was not involved in an illegal poker game. He was just visiting some old friends here in Ljubljana. Everything was just fine until this accident.”
For the last week Slovenian police had been on high alert looking for the German poker pro but had no success locating him. When the body was discovered near the river it had deteriorated so much that immediate identification was not possible.
DNA results confirmed that the body belonged to Strassmann and the search came to an end.
Strassmann’s last professional appearance was in April 2014 when he walked away with prize money of $33,757 at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.
