The Freedom to Ban the Online Casino Industry

Published on September 18, 2007 by admin   ·   No Comments

The United States’ stand regarding online casino gambling has been discussed many times. However, the ban over the online gambling industry is raising so many ethical questions that further discussion is needed. China, as we all know, is trying to control the web and the way people in China use information that was found through the platform. Such behavior is being criticized all over the world and most western countries believe that China’s actions are unacceptable. A close look at the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act should raise similar reactions.

The Chinese government is acting against what we would call the Natural Rights people have. The right people have to choose what is good for them or to choose for themselves what constitute as a positive way of living is a right so important to the Americans that the United States went to war in the past in order to protect the notion behind those rights. However, when it comes to the United States itself it seems the administration does not think people should choose their online content for themselves. It thinks people should not be able to choose what form of home entertainment is right for them and, eventually, people shouldn’t choose what kind of life they lead.

Playing at online casino should be allowed. There is no real reason to ban online gambling other than irrelevant political agendas. The United States should protect the rights it holds so dear and grant people the ability to choose for themselves what kind of home entertainment is right for them. The government should help protect people from harm, but it should be doing so by offering a regulation system that controls the industry and not by depriving people their rights. Hopefully, the new proposal for regulation and taxation will become a reality and the United States could once again become the symbol of freedom.
