Manny Pacquiao received a brief pep talk from defeated presidential candidate Mitt Romney before going on to lose his match against Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday.

Romney visited Pacquiao in his dressing room and said “I wish you good luck tonight. Have a great night. Good to see you” to the boxer.

Pacquiao is familiar with politics; he has previously claimed a seat in his country’s national congress in May 2010 when he was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines.

Before the fight Pacquiao said that “it is very important to me to win this fight, especially since Marquez really wanted this fight”.

The two have fought three times previously, in May 2004 they drew, in March 2008 Marquez lost his WBC super-featherweight title to Pacquiao. Last year in November Pacquiao just about kept the title after a controversial majority decision.

However, it seems Romney’s pep talk didn’t do him much good. It will be interesting to see how Pacquiao does in his next fight on December 31st. Pacquiao will be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr and the bookies think he will lose again. Pacquiao has odds of 13/8 while Mayweather has odds of 8/15.
