Online Casino Faces Liberalization

The online casino industry is constantly in the public eye regarding legalization and regulation in countries all around the world. A recent BBC documentary program has raised more questions about online casino gaming and the law, as well as questions about the viability of government proposals to regulate online casinos. This is because the documentary also states that up to one million people a year could become addicted to online gambling.

Professor Jim Orford, addiction expert, criticized the current law and government, calling it ‘na?ve’ and ‘playing dice’ with people’s health by liberalizing gambling laws, with the latest research from the Gambling Commission showing that the UK currently has one million regular online casino gamblers. ‘Gradually we’re going to realize it’s a much bigger problem than we thought. More people are going to know friends and family members who’ve got problems and health authorities are going to be under pressure to provide treatment,’ said Orford. The program, titled ‘Panorama’, reveals figures from Internet media and market research company Nielsen/Net Ratings that an average of 5.8 million people a month visit online casino sites.

The United States, with regards to online casino gaming, has officially made online casino gambling against the law. American online gambling fans are hoping that the new Congress will help overturn this recent ban. In the meantime, US online gamblers will have to wait and see if America will legally enter the world of online casinos and allow them to enjoy one of the most popular pastimes of this decade. Only time will tell the future of the online casinos industry in the US.
