House Resolution 1214 Takes on Online Casino Firms

Published on June 13, 2006 by admin   ·   No Comments

A well known Philippino gaming regulator may have recently taken eCOGRA’s online casino standards on board, but the country’s government remains firmly committed to preventing online casino operators from targeting Philippino fans. Recently politicians have taken drastic measures to address the increase in underage gamblers playing at online casino sites.

A new House Resolution 1214 urging police, local government units and online casino operators to strictly enforce laws relating to underage gambling has been issued. The rise in underage gambling was brought to the government’s attention by a recent study, which showed that 85 percent of students had tried some form of gambling in the past year, including online casino gaming. Online gambling is illegal in the Philippines but this doesn’t seem to deter thousands of Philippino casino players from trying their luck at online casino sites each day.

The government is obviously concerned about the increase in online casino gambling, but intends to tackle underage gambling first. A recent government report accused the online casino industry of turning a blind eye to underage gambling; an allegation that several popular casinos have denied.
