Casino Sued After Husband Loses Money

Published on December 22, 2005 by admin   ·   No Comments

A bad night at the casino has turned into a legal nightmare. Two male addictive gamblers, with some of the worst luck they’ve ever experienced at a casino, managed to lose their families’ funds and savings. The two casino fans were playing the ‘fruit machines’ at a WestSpiel casino in Germany. Needless to say, the wives of these two men were incensed. They decided to sue the casino in a formal court law suit. Both women won their cases.

According to the ruling from the high court of Karlsruhe, Germany, the casino showed negligence by allowing these two men to continue gambling when it had received a written request to remove the two men if they ever attempted to enter. The casino admitted to monitoring play, however only at the blackjack and roulette tables. It does not regularly monitor players who gamble on machines in the lobby.

The amount of damages the women will receive has not yet been determined by the court, but it will most likely be in the thousands of Euros. This is another instance of problem gambling and its effect on not only the players themselves, but on their families as well. This is why written letters of request for removal from casinos has been encouraged by responsible gaming agencies and organizations. Hopefully, in the future, casinos will be more conscious of this fact and provide stricter monitoring conditions to help avoid situations such as this particular one.
