The Derby County football team is soon to close its first deal of the transfer window period this season, with the Argentine striker Emanuel Villa. Confirmed recently by club manager Paul Jewell, signing Villa will be a crucial step in maintaining the team's premier league position, especially after signing away striker Steve Howard for 1.5 million pounds to Leicester.

Villa, 25 years old, currently plays for UAG Tecos in the Premier Division De Mexico, and holds the top scorer's position per performances. Jewell explained that "It's a gamble but it will be an exciting one for the supporters. We've had good reports from the scouts and he looks a good player." Villa is expected to meet with Jewell later in the week to finalize the deal and undergo medical examinations.

The signing of this deal is the first move in Derby's desperate attempts to avoid relegation, and they are looking to rebuild the team with a range of new player faces. Jewell further revealed that he and the team "are 99 per cent certain that we have a deal for a Premier League player and that's almost done. We need players, a blind man can see that...scoring goals has been a problem".

As for Villa, the deal will be a "dream come true". As he told reporters, "I wanted to play in Europe and now I have the opportunity and there is nowhere better than the Premier League". Hopefully the move will be successful, and despite the Rams' grim situation, Jewell boasted that "he's keen to come and we're keen to have him".
