Justice Minister of Ireland, Brian Lenihan, has taken a turn for the good with regards to his attitude towards online casinos. Once in favor of banning both online and offline casinos all together, today Lenihan stands convinced that despite previous concerns there is still room for compromise.

As Lenihan explained to reporters, "while a number of casinos are currently operating in Ireland as private members' clubs, those looking to jump into the business in a big way are still waiting for the Government to show its hand over legislation on the market". Many potential operators for online and offline casinos will have to undergo thorough testing and adhere to strict regulations before applying for a casinos operating license. One of the most influential of these will be a newly established casinos gaming commission to ensure that all future online and offline casinos follow the required laws and regulations to be soon outlined by the committee.

Some regulations have already been outlined for future casinos in Ireland, such as an age limit of at least 21, and the requirement of fingerprint identification technology. Others include increased taxes and higher licensing fees for casinos, which will effectively mean spending significant more amounts just getting established. To date there is only one out of several casinos that will fit the bill - Dermot Desmond's Sporting Emporium - which itself took several million to reach its current state.
Nevertheless, operators for online and offline casinos will be thrilled by what is no doubt excellent news for the Irish casinos industry.
